INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman is dead after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver while exiting an IndyGo bus Monday evening.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the intersection of 34th Street and Meridian Street around 9:40 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle.

Police say the victim was exiting an IndyGo bus with her cousin at that intersection and was trying to cross Meridian when she was struck by a vehicle.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle hit the woman so hard that she briefly went onto the roof of the car. The driver then sped from the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital where she died. She has been identified as Diamond Brewer, 22.

Police say the woman's cousin was not injured.

Witnesses describe the vehicle as a red Dodge Charger or Challenger-type sports car. Police are still interviewing witnesses and checking surveillance in the area, but they do not have any suspects at this time.
