Woman held at gunpoint, locked in bathroom while thieves ransacked her home

Posted

CAMBY, Ind. -- A woman in Camby says thieves held her at gunpoint while she was warming up her vehicle, then forced her into a bathroom and ransacked her home early Friday morning.

Jacqui Greis says she was approached by two people with a gun when she came back out to get into her car to leave around 6 a.m. after warming it up.

"She said someone had beat her up and she needed to make a phone call," said Greis. "So I handed her my phone and unlocked it for her. She acted like she was making a call and said no one answered - as soon as she said that, the gentleman that was in the driver's side seat got out and that's when I knew I was in trouble."

Greis said the pair pointed the gun at her and forced her onto the ground. As she laid there on the cold pavement, the thieves ransacked her car - then they made her take them into her apartment.

"He handed her the gun and she held the gun on me as he ransacked my apartment," said Greis.

Greis said the pair dumped out drawers and went through her closets, filling about 10 plastic grocery store bags with her belongings. At one point they even punched through a wall in her home, saying they were looking for hidden cash or drugs.

Greis said the pair locked her in her bathroom while they went through her home, and then made her sit on the couch with a gun to her head. The whole ordeal lasted around 30 minutes.

"They switched places several times," said Greis. "They took my TV and my cell phone and the money I had."

When the pair finally left, Greis locked her deadbolt and waited a few minutes to make sure they were gone before she ran to her neighbors to call the police.

"I didn't have anything to alert anyone else that I needed help," said Greis. "I don't have a landline at home so when they took my cell phone I didn't have any way to get any help or defend myself."

According to police reports, a second woman was robbed at gunpoint by two people matching the same description just not long after the suspects left Greis' home.

Police say they have arrested a man and a juvenile female who they believe committed the crime. The two are also suspects in a number of other robberies in the area. Police are not releasing their identities at this time.
