INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis woman is out thousands of dollars after police say a person posing as a potential customer got access to her gym’s locker room and stole her purse – then her car.
Britni Purdue says she was working out at the Planet Fitness on Madison Avenue and had left her purse inside her locker. It wasn’t until she was done with her workout that she noticed what happened.
“I was in a panic,” said Purdue. “My purse was behind my gym bag. They had to dig through my locker to find my purse.”
Purdue says she ran out to the parking lot to check on her car – and it was gone too.
“I always lock my locker, and this just happened to be a time,” said Purdue. “I ran out to the parking lot, I was parked in a front row spot. My car was gone. I started crying.”
According to the police report, after the woman stole Purdue’s purse she ran outside and got into a truck. That truck was seen driving around the parking lot until the woman jumped out and stole Purdue’s vehicle.
After that, Purdue says hundreds of dollars were charged to her credit cards and a Verizon Wireless account was even opened at the mall.
“It feels like a complete violation,” said Purdue. “I don’t feel safe at my house because my garage door opener was in my car. I don’t feel safe when people are walking around me. I constantly think someone is going to take my stuff.”
Purdue hopes someone will recognize her charcoal gray Honda Accord and report it to police.
Surveillance images of the suspect have not yet been released.
