INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman was shot and killed in a domestic incident on Indianapolis' north side early Saturday morning.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the scene at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Boulder Drive just after 7:30 a.m. 

When they arrived, police found a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries. 

The woman's identity has not been released. 

Detectives determined that the shooting was domestically related and arrested Alvin Perkins, 63, on a preliminary charge of murder. 

Formal charges will be filed by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office at a later date.
