INDIANAPOLIS -- Your Citizens Energy Bill could soon be going up.
The company asked the Indiana Regulatory Committee on Friday to raise your wastewater rates a total of $13 over the next three years.
The increase would help pay for the DigIndy tunnel system and other projects that are cleaning up the waterways.
If approved, the increase would raise the average monthly bill about $8.50 in the summer of 2019, another $2.75 in 2020 and $2 in 2021.
The company is also proposing assistance for low-income customers.
About 10 miles of the 28-mile DigIndy tunnel system is already complete. Their goal is to nearly eliminate sewer overflows into the White River and streams.
Construction was started on the DigIndy tunnels in 2012 and is scheduled to be completed by 2025.
