INDIANAPOLIS — A portion of Interstate 465 between Interstate 70 and Interstate 65 on Indianapolis' southeast side will be closed for 15 days — twice.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday that the two closures are part of a statewide, $150 million plan to repair winter damage and improve pavement conditions around the state.

Interstate 465 EB/NB will be closed from Aug. 9 through Aug. 24, according to INDOT. There will be no closures during the Labor Day weekend.

The second closure, of Interstate 465 SB/WB, will take place Sept. 6 through Sept. 21. This closure coincides with the running of the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sept. 8 and encompasses the lanes traveling toward the track.

Both closures impact the Interstate 465 junction with Interstate 74 on the city's southeast side.

INDOT said motorists should plan alternate routes and leave early.

Here are the INDOT suggested detours during the closures:

  • During the Aug. 9-24 closure of EB/NB I-465: Thru traffic can take I-70 EB through downtown Indianapolis to I-465 NB. I-74 traffic can take Southeastern Avenue from downtown to I-74.
  • During the Sept. 6-21 closure of SB/WB I-465: Thru traffic can take I-70 WB through downtown Indianapolis to I-465 SB. I-74 WB traffic can take Southeastern Avenue to downtown Indianapolis.
