Indy firefighters take kids Christmas shopping

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis firefighters are coming to the rescue again, this time saving Christmas for kids in need.

As part of the IFD Clothe-a-Child program, 43 kids were paired with a firefighter to go shopping at Castleton Square Mall.

Sears opened their doors early for the group, who spent $10,000 outfitting the kids with clothes and shoes. The kids also met Santa and opened an early Christmas gift.

Organizers say this day is one the department looks forward to all year long.

"It is a way for us to give back, above and beyond what we do do every day serving the community. We get to make an impact, a positive impact on these kids lives and it's something these firefighters truly enjoy doing," IFD Battalion Chief Scott Isaacs said.

If you want to help the program continue, drop off any spare change with firefighters as they fill the bell at Castleton Square Mall and Circle Centre Mall through December 23.
