MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. -- A 62-year-old Indianapolis man was killed Thursday when a train struck his van.
Indiana State Police said a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Kenneth Vansickle, 62, of Indianapolis, was headed southbound on County Road 1050 East in Montgomery County when it apparently attempted to cross train tracks as a train was approaching.
Police said the intersection was marked by a stop sign and rural railroad crossing signs.
The conductor told police he saw the minivan stop at the crossing and then pull into the intersection at the last minute.
The train then struck Vansickle's vehicle, killing him.
No one on the train was injured.
