Indy Parks kicks off free summer meals program for kids

INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Parks just kicked off its annual Summer Servings program at Ellenberger Park on Friday.

The goal is to serve 200,000 free meals this summer. Those meals will be available to anyone 18 and younger in Marion County, either through mobile meal units or meals dropped off at certain locations.

According to a statement, Indy Parks will provide daily delivery of meals to the nearly 100 program sites, which includes park locations and 36 mobile sites. In addition, Indy Parks will provide free food service training for participating organizations and groups in Marion County.

The meals are also enjoyed year-round by children in schools, Indy Parks family centers, public libraries and apartment complexes. In the past five years, the program has served more than 2 million meals, amounting to $6.8 million in free food for Marion County residents.
