INDIANAPOLIS -- Many teens across Indiana were gearing up for the biggest night of their lives this week : prom night.

The cost to attend prom can end up being staggering for some. The average cost for each student to go to prom on average is nearing $1,000.

Before learning about Cinderella Story, Warren Central junior Cassady Cantu didn't think she could go to prom.

"I thought about not going to prom because I couldn't afford it and stuff, but I think that everyone should have that experience," she said. "Nobody should miss out."

Thanks to fairy godmothers Julie Winbun and Deb Lewis, and generous donations to Cinderella Story, Cantu's dream of going to the big dance is coming true, though.

Cantu hand-picked her dress, free of charge. It's never been worn.

Any teacher, family member or friend can nominate a deserving teen for the Cinderella experience. The shopping event is also open to any high school student for the small price of $20.

The shopping event kicks off Saturday in Westfield from noon to 3 p.m. at the Monon Trails Elementary School.
