HANCOCK COUNTY—Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in a crash, early-Thursday , that left a Hancock County woman dead.

44-year-old Rachel Thomas of Wilkinson was killed in the two-vehicle accident which happened at 12:45 a.m. on State Road 234, just east of State Road 9. That's about six miles north of Greenfield.

According to the Hancock County Fatal Accident Team, Thomas was in a Ford Focus with three other people on State Road 234 when a Mini Cooper coming from the other direction crossed the center line and slammed into the Focus.

The three other people in the car with Wilkinson were injured, but are expected to survive.

Investigators say a 24-year-old woman from Richmond was at the wheel of the Mini Cooper. She was tested and then arrested on a preliminary charge of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death. She and the passenger in the Mini Cooper suffered what were described a minor injuries.
