INDIANAPOLIS – If you use Apple products, your phone or your tablet is about to undergo a big change.
In the next 24 hours or so, Apple is releasing iOS 10, an update for its products said to be the biggest overhaul so far.
And it’s one that will offer a number of new features particularly helpful for people with disabilities.
The much-anticipated update means new opportunities for people like Laura Medcalf, a social media content specialist who has muscular dystrophy. Medcalf says she often has hand tremors, which make it hard to type.
Brian Norton, director of assistive technology of the INDATA Project at Easter Seals Crossroads, which provides disability and special needs services, said the update also brings a new version of visual voicemail allowing users to read a transcription of what their voicemail was.
By Monday, you couldn’t yet download the new update. But we got a sneak peek on iOS 10 and got a closer look at how the new system will make everything from texting to reading small print easier with anyone with a disability.
