INDIANAPOLIS -- Does luck really exist?
Dr. Natalie Dattilo is a psychologist at IU Health. She says luck is a skill you can learn.
Dattilo says researchers have found that people's thoughts and behaviors are responsible for much of their so-called luck. For example, people who describe themselves as lucky tend to be open to experiences. They're optimistic in their outlook. They learn from mistakes. And they bounce back quickly from disappointments and setbacks.
"They expect it to happen," Datillo said. "That's the first thing. You want to recognize opportunities when they come along, trust your gut and keep trying."
