BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police Bomb Squad responded to Boone County Wednesday afternoon after a woman reported finding a "grenade" at the side of the road.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Department, the woman had gotten a flat tire on Mount Zion Road the day before and returned to see what had caused it. While she was searching the area, she found what she thought was a grenade at the side of the road.
That woman called the sheriff's department and they sent photos of the "grenade" to the Indiana State Police bomb technicians, who were unable to tell from the photos whether the device was real or fake.
Indiana State Police are sending a bomb squad unit out to retrieve the "grenade" and determine if it is real.
The area of 1700 Mount Zion Road will remain closed until the investigation is over.
