INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indiana State Trooper's police cruiser was struck by a suspended driver on I-465 Monday night, starting a chain-reaction crash that involved five vehicles.
The crash happened just after 6:00 p.m. near the 8.8-mile marker on I-465 westbound.
Trooper Arturo Azcona III was outside of his car investigating a separate minor crash when a westbound Dodge pickup truck slammed into his police cruiser.
The impact of the crash caused Azcona's cruiser to travel across all lanes of I-465, striking a guard rail on the other side of the highway. After striking Azcona's vehicle, the pickup then struck the vehicle in front of the police car, bounced into the left lane and struck a third vehicle before finally being struck by a westbound semi-truck.
No one was injured in the crash, though four vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Police determined the driver of the pickup was 35-year-old Chad Campton of Indianapolis, who was reportedly driving on a suspended license.
Campton also faces a preliminary charge of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
