BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A Indiana University student was arrested after officers caught him with a stolen gun and drugs in a parked vehicle.

Jason Nguyen was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a handgun without a license, dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana and illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage.

Indiana University Police were walking in a parking lot near Forest Quad on Tuesday around 11 p.m. when they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from one of the parked vehicles.

Police searched the vehicle and found a stolen handgun in the center console. The handgun was reportedly stolen in 2014 and is believed to be one of multiple firearms stolen during a robbery of a gun store in North Vernon, Indiana, where the owner was shot and killed. Police do not believe that the student was involved in that robbery and murder. Police say all of those suspects were identified and arrested.

Police also found evidence that the student was dealing marijuana from the vehicle.

Nguyen told police that he purchased the stolen weapon from Indianapolis.
