Two lockdowns, three armed robberies near IUPUI

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- IUPUI issued the all-clear following a lockdown on campus -- the second one Tuesday, both spurred by armed robberies.

The university tweeted that the crime had occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the Lockefield Gardens Apartments

No other details about the second robbery were immediately available.

Earlier Tuesday, another armed robbery occurred on the 700 block of Blake Street. The suspect was initially reported to be running toward campus around 3:15 p.m.

The school advised those on campus to lock doors and take shelter.

A person inside the library on campus told RTV6 that the situation was calm and that most people were going about their business. An announcement was made over the PA telling students and others that the campus was on emergency lockdown, and that the doors were locked so no one could enter or leave. Those inside the library were asked to seek shelter and move to the third or fourth floors.

The university posted on its website at 4:23 p.m. that the area near where the robbery had been searched and no suspect had been found. Those on campus were told they could leave shelter and resume normal activities.

From IUPUI's website:

A third robbery was reported at 8:15 p.m. on the 400 block of Canal View Way in the Garden of Canal Court apartments. Two suspects matching the description of those wanted in the 7:45 p.m. robbery allegedly held up a male victim. Police said that victim was not an IUPUI student.

No injuries were reported in any of the robberies.
