Man who pleaded guilty to rape to learn sentence

Posted
A man who pleaded guilty to raping an elderly woman in Bloomington last year, as well as the burglary and rape of somebody else in 1999, will learn his sentence Thursday.

Police say Jerald Honeycutt, 34, broke into the home of a 73-year-old woman in June 2015.

Officers say he spent more than an hour inside and didn't leave until the woman used an emergency alert system to call 911.

The woman was sleeping when she woke up to a man’s hand on her mouth. Police said the suspect sexually assaulted the woman in her living room and then directed her to the bedroom where a second assault took place.

After arresting Honeycutt for the June incident, investigators found that his DNA matches that of a 1999 case of rape and burglary of a 62-year-old woman.

In the course of the 2015 investigation, detectives checked the old case file and learned that Honeycutt had been questioned in the 1999 incident.
