Jewelry, presents stolen while woman at chemo

KOKOMO, Ind. -- A Howard County family says they're crushed after thieves broke into their home, stealing Christmas presents, jewelry and the homeowner's cancer medications.

Shelly Grub says it happened while she was out of the house receiving chemotherapy.

"All this stuff was dumped on the floor, like they took everything out of my cabinets," Grub said.

Grub has been in a four-year-long battle with ovarian cancer. She says she will have to take chemo for the rest of her life.

"All the health issues she got, she doesn't really need this on top of it," her husband, Mark Grub, said.

In addition to her medications, Grub said the thieves also stole jewelry passed down from her mother and late grandmother.

"I felt like I had been destroyed," she said. "I mean, I really … I don't know how to explain it other than I was destroyed."

She also laments the loss of the Christmas presents she'd bought for her grandchildren.

"I wanted my grandkids to have a good Christmas," she said.

Police estimated the total value of the stolen items at around $10,000.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact the Kokomo Police Department.
