WHITELAND, Ind. -- A student taken into custody in connection with a threat made toward Whiteland High School over social media has been released to his parents.
In a release sent out by the Greenwood Police Department on Friday, police say they received a complaint that a 17-year-old student had made threats about "shooting up the school" after posting a photo of himself with a gun in his waist that said, "Thought you could stop me."
The juvenile was taken into custody and police searched his home, phone and computer for evidence of the threat. Police did find a black BB gun inside the teen's bedroom which he said was the same "gun" he had tucked into his pants in the photo.
Police say the teen and his mother fully cooperated with the investigation and after searches and interviews police did not find any evidence that a threat had been made. The student was released into the custody of his mother late Friday morning.
"Our local police are amazing at keeping our schools safe!," Clark-Pleasant Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Patrick Spray tweeted early Friday morning. "Thanks for your help, quick action, and continued dedication!"
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Greenwood Police Department.
The Greenwood Police Department worked diligently late last night to ensure that safety for students and staff would be maintained.
