JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – Customers who visited the Hope Gallery, which opened its doors in Bargersville, Ind. Saturday, will get something special when they visit.
Named after Hope Parker, who is living with a severe congenital heart defect,
Employees of the Hope Gallery are young adults who have autism or other developmental disabilities, helping them learn more about running a business.
"I want to work here a long time so I can help people out,” Liz Layer said.
The employees are learning everything from customer service to sales.
Research has found that 35 percent of young adults with autism had no job plans of attending higher education.
Alex and Ali Foundation President Jennifer Parker said the mission of the gallery is to empower young adults.
"These young adults are fantastic. They teach us way more than we teach them,” Jennifer Parker said. “We’re just proud of them and we’re honored to be a part of this with them.”
All of the proceeds from the gallery go to help enhance the lives of the young adults that work there.
