JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – A female dog who had lost use of her hind legs was found by officers with the Johnson County Animal Control in early August.
Michael Delp, director of the Johnson County Animal Control said the dog was found crawling along the road dragging her legs.She was infested with fleas, infections and had open sores and scabs.
Staff initially thought she was struck by a car, but after she was taken to veterinarian, it was determined that she had a mass on her spine that had been left untreated for so long, it resulted in paralysis.
She was donated a wheelchair by Gunnar’s Wheels and named Petunia.
“I couldn’t be happier for Petunia,” said Delp. “She has acclimated herself to the wheelchair and is starting to regain her bodily functions so we hope the antibiotics are starting to take effect, so it’s a wait and see on that. She’s super friendly and loves attention.”
Delp said he hopes a loving home can be found for Petunia.
“She is finally starting to trust people again,” said Delp. “Just one of many who deserved better…and we are determined to give her a new lease on life.”
