INDIANAPOLIS – Kaye’s Beauty and Barber College in Castleton suddenly closed Saturday after they could not meet requirements set by the Department of Education.

A notice was posted on the door by the owner.

After stating the location was permanently closed, the notice informed students they can collect items from their lockers and transcripts Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. It also encourages students and visitors to visit the school’s Noblesville location for services.

The full notice can be found at the bottom of this story.

Judy Crouch, sister of the owner who handles business operations, said she brought management in Saturday morning to inform them of the closing.

When students were told shortly after, she said they were so angry they would not let her finish speaking.

Crouch said the students began taking items such as towels and product, so she called the police.

The school said it will work with students to try to get them placed at another beauty school. The financial aid will be transferred to other schools.

The business' attorney, Phillip Stewart, said the owner is in failing health and did not want to continue with the business, which is struggling financially. He also said the number of students was down.

Kaye’s Castleston closes just weeks after Regency Beauty closed 79 locations after 50 years of service for similar reasons.
