INDIANAPOLIS – On the same day police in Lafayette had to rescue a 2-year-old from a hot car, Indianapolis Fire Department crews are spreading the message of how dangerous it can be to leave a child in a car in the summer.
The Lafayette Police Department said it responded to a call Wednesday at the Tippecanoe Mall to check on the toddler left in a car in the parking lot outside.
After about 20 minutes, they were able to get the child out and to a hospital to be checked out.
Police have not yet made an arrest, but charges could still come down, because this is an issue officers take very seriously.
Nationally, 11 kids have died so far this year from heat stroke after someone left them alone inside a hot car.
So we got a firsthand look at the difficulties first responders face when trying to save kids like that.
