KOKOMO, Ind. -- A Kokomo High School teacher died Tuesday while chaperoning a school trip in China.
Melanie Peoples was with students on a trip to their sister school in China when she died of natural causes in her sleep Tuesday morning.
Peoples was an English and language arts teacher who'd been with Kokomo Schools for 18 years.
Superintendent Jeff Hauswald said all of the students on the trip were safe and their parents have been notified. They were scheduled to return to Kokomo this weekend.
Peoples' death comes in the same week a Bishop Chatard High School teacher died while chaperoning a school trip in Poland.

Bishop Chatard theater teacher Kyle Guyton suffered an asthma attack while chaperoning the trip and became unresponsive. Emergency responders were not able to revive him.
Guyton was a 2011 graduate of Bishop Chatard who had joined the school staff this year.
