Lawrence PD gets creative to help homeless man

LAWRENCE, Ind. -- Lawrence Police Department late shift officers got creative when trying to help a homeless man. 

A reserve officer noticed a homeless man who frequents the area of Pendleton Pike and I-465 was in need of new shoes. They were torn up and barely hanging together. The only problem was that the shoes were a size 17. 

The officer did some research and did not have much success. So, the officer decided to ask the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers had some, and donated a pair of 17 shoes that were made for a former player. 

In addition to the shoes, the officer brought some other donated items to the man. 

"The officer didn't do this for any kind of recognition, but because it was the right thing to do," a post on the department's Facebook page said.
