Lightsaber Academy blends fun, fitness

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Star Wars fans now have a way to better understand the Force.

The Indy Lightsaber Academy allows students to learn sword-fighting techniques that can be used on the stage or in the streets.

Some of their students just like the benefit of blasting hundreds of calories during an hour-long class.

"I did my first sparring for the last class, and I was, like, giggling the whole time," said student Katie Angel. "It wasn't funny, I was just so nervous that I accidentally hit my friend in the face."

The academy will hold a training workshop on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2p.m. Starting at 3 p.m. will be a single-elimination lightsaber tournament.

The tournament is being held at the Circle City Industrial Complex.
