INDIANAPOLIS -- Local security experts reacted to mass shootings in San Bernardino, California, on Wednesday; say there is no simple solution to keep similar killings from occurring.
Security expert Peter Beering has decades of experience in the areas of anti-terrorism and homeland security.
Beering says when looking ahead to prevent tragedies like the one in San Bernardino, it's hard to keep one person or a small group of people from violence if that's what they are committed to carrying out.
"This defies a simple solution," he said. "This is going to require a multi-faceted approach that is going to have components of legislation, there will be components of mental health resources, there will be components of privacy tradeoffs, security enhancements and improvements … all of which are going to have to work together," Beering said.
Beering said that while Indianapolis could be a potential target, all of the public safety agencies in and around the city communicate and plan to work together to prevent similar tragedies.
