INDIANAPOLIS — An effort to find and train Hoosiers for a career in manufacturing is underway in the Circle City.

Dozens of high school students from Arlington Tech and New Palestine toured the Allegion facility on the city's northeast side.

They learned about the need for skilled workers and resources that are available for career training.

Allegion leaders said the goal is to connect with the students and get them thinking about a career in manufacturing.

"The shortage of workers is, frankly, everywhere, but certainly here in Indianapolis we have it," Allegion president Tim Eckersley said. "One of the challenges is that are currently in the approximately half a million unfilled manufacturing jobs around country and we expect that to grow over the next 5-to-10 years."

Friday's event was part of National Manufacturing Day. It was the fifth year Allegion has celebrated by hosting local students.
