GREENWOOD, Ind. -- If you live or travel near Greenwood, Indiana, pretty soon you'll have a reason to hop off the interstate and head east of I-65.

The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission approved plans and funding for Dragon Rock Distillery on a 12-acre plot less than a mile from the interstate.

The $7 million project will include a craft distillery, brewery, warehouse and restaurant.

Brent Tilson, the president of the commission, said the city is investing $170,000 into the infrastructure to help this part of Greenwood grow.

"We invest in these projects because our role is to help spawn development," he said. We want to see things happen that's going to bring business and jobs to the area and create assessed value and growth of the business environment and make it a better place for people to live, work and play."

More than 50 employees will be hired for the distillery.

Construction is set to begin at the end of the year.
