WASHINGTON—Former Indiana Senator Richard Lugar's final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery.

The Lugar Center in Washington says the burial will be July 24 and will be a private ceremony for close family and friends.

Lugar, who served in the U.S. Senate from 1977 to 2013, died on April 28 at the age of 87. His funeral took place at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.

Lugar was one of the most respected members of the Senate where he was Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and co-authored with Georgia Senator Sam Nunn the Nunn-Lugar Act to reduce nuclear weapons.

Prior to his six-terms in Washington, Lugar was Mayor of Indianapolis for eight years.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960.
