Police in Hancock County are investigating human remains that were found in a creek bed Thursday morning.

Capt. Jeff Rasche, with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, said the male body was found after workers at a business near the creek reported a foul smell.

The creek is located in the 3100 block of West U.S. 40, near Greenfield.

Officials have not yet identified the remains, and a cause of death is pending.

Rasche said investigators don't know yet if the remains belong to Jody Scroggins, 56, a man who was reported missing last week.

A Silver Alert was issued for Scroggins after family members said they went to his home on the morning of June 24 and found his front door standing open with the air conditioner running. His personal items and his shoes were still at the home.
