INDIANAPOLIS -- A 65-year-old man is out of his house, but had no injuries after a fire damaged his house on Indianapolis' near south side Friday morning.

The fire started at around 2 a.m. at a two-story house on the 1500 block of S. Alabama Street. It took about an hour for crews to mark the fire as under control, but the fire spread to two other nearby houses.

The 65-year-old man was identified as William Jordan. Jordan's house was to the north of the main house. A man who was walking by, Richard Moore, saw the flames of the main house and banged on the door of Jordan's house. The knocking woke Jordan up, and he was able to escape with no injuries.

"I was kinda nervous," Moore said. "I didn't know what was about to happen. I didn't know if something was gonna start falling on me or what. Just saving a life."

There was nobody in the main house when it caught fire. It was a total loss.
