COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A Seymour man was arrested after he allegedly battered his girlfriend and their two-month-old child at a mall Monday night.
Columbus Police officers were called to the 200 block of 25th Street around 7:15 p.m. for a disturbance.
When they arrived, the suspect, Dustin M. Keefer, 27, ran from police. He was caught a short time later and was given a breath test that came back at .324%.
A witness told officers she heard a woman screaming for help in the parking lot and saw Keefer hit the woman as she was holding the baby.
The victim later told police that Keefer had been drinking all day and threw a cigarette lighter inside their vehicle that hit the two-month-old in the head. The two started fighting and Keefer allegedly grabbed the baby and drug her out of the car seat by her leg before the victim was able to get the baby back.
An ambulance responded to the scene to check on the two-month-old who was later released to her mom.
Keefer was transported to the hospital and then to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, public intoxication, neglect of a dependent, battery-victim under 14 years of age, domestic batter in the presence of a minor.
