Man arrested for fatal Jennings County crash that trapped him for three days

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Three days after their car careened off a Jennings County road, Kevin Bell crawled from the wreckage of the crash that killed his girlfriend and flagged down help. On Thursday, state police arrested Bell on multiple charges in connection with her death.

Police now say Bell lied when officers first arrived on the scene last month along U.S. 50 in Jennings County. Bell reportedly misled police about how he sustained the serious injuries to his legs and did not mention that he had been in a crash – or that his girlfriend, 37-year-old Nikki Reed, of Seymour, Indiana, had been killed.

Troopers eventually found the wrecked car and the body of Reed, who had been reported missing days earlier when she never returned from picking Bell up from Pennsylvania.

During the investigation, police learned that Bell had been driving the car, and driving on a suspended license, at the time of the crash.

On Thursday, police located Bell at St. Vincent's Hospital on 86th Street in Indianapolis.

Bell was arrested without incident on multiple charges, including driving while suspended causing death and leaving the scene of a fatal crash – both felony counts.

Police say an autopsy confirmed that Reed's fatal injuries were sustained in the initial collision, and no foul play is suspected.
