INDIANAPOLIS — A suspicious man in a red car attempted to lure a Perry Township elementary school student into his car Monday morning.

Superintendent Patrick Mapes alerted Perry Township staff and parents in a recorded phone call at 6 p.m. Monday that the elementary school student told her bus driver that the man pulled up and said her bus was going to be late and that he would take her to school. The girl's older brother was also at the stop, and they did not go with the man and remained at the bus stop.

The bus driver immediately called Perry Township School Police.

The car is described as a small four-door red vehicle with a baby in the backseat, while the location was 5100 Shelby St. at Thompson Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department at 317-327-3811.

Perry Township School Police is investigating and encouraging parents and students to be vigilant at school bus stops.
