INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man has been charged with the death of his 6-week-old son.
Isaac Hicks, 19, is charged with murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death and battery resulting in death to a person less than 14 years of age.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry announced the charges Thursday morning.
According to court documents, emergency crews responded to a call of an unresponsive child on the 2900 block of N. Gale Street on June 6. Hicks ran out to the ambulance visibly upset and crying with his son, Zhion Hicks, in his arms. Isaac told the medics his son wasn't breathing and was limp.
The child was taken to Riley Hospital. A doctor at Riley told detectives Zhion had brain injuries, with a grave outcome. Zhion also had injuries to his chest, back and eye.
According to documents, Isaac told police he was changing Zhion that morning when he noticed the child wasn't breathing. Isaac told police he tried doing CPR on Zhion.
Police obtained a search warrant for Isaac's phone. They found that on June 4, two days before the 911 call, he made searches like:
- "sids definition"
- "sids definition sids symptoms"
- "sids definition baby shaking when moving"
SIDS is also known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
On June 14, medical support was removed for Zhion Hicks. He was pronounced dead at 1:36 p.m.
The next day, an autopsy was performed, and the cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma. Zhion's injuries were consistent with non-accidental injuries.
Isaac Hicks is being held without bond in the Marion County Jail.
