CROTHERSVILLE, Ind. – A man was charged with neglect after his three-year-old son wandered away from a house near Crothersville.
Police charged Raymond Davis III, 49, with neglect of a dependent. Officers say they found the young boy wearing only a t-shirt after he had walked to a house about a tenth-of-a-mile from his home on Jackson County Road 1025 East.
Crothersville Police and Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies took the boy home, but were unable to get anyone to answer the door. A police report says the younger boy’s 11-year-old brother was found on the second floor of the home that was described as littered with trash, and the older boy told them he didn’t believe any adults were inside the home.
Davis, the father, was found asleep on the third floor of the home by police. Officers say he was unaware that the boy had wandered away, and claimed he didn’t know he had been left to watch his sons after the boys’ grandparents had left.
The boy was away from the home for about an hour, police said, and was not hurt.
