DANVILLE, Ind. – The man killed by an electrical shock while working at a construction site in downtown Danville Saturday morning was identified by police.

Danville police officers said 60-year-old Chris Goins was on a bucket lift when it came into contact  with a power line while he working at Danville Christian Church at 180 W. Main Street. Police said the incident happened around 11 a.m.

Officers said Goins was electrocuted as he attempted to raise the lift to continue working on the church's roof. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Many of Goins' family and friends said he had a great impact on the community.

"Number one, his family was first. Number two, he did so much for the community. It's a great loss," said Gary Edwards, a member of the American Legion Post where Goins attended. "He would do anything for anyone and this post is devastated. "

Goins was known for his volunteering in the community and residents said he raised money for several causes.

"Just a true example of how we all should live and a true example to this post and what we believe... that we are all here to help others," said Lynda Morgan, post member.

Goins' American Legion Post created a Gofundme account to help with funeral arrangements. About 16 hours after the account was set up, more than $12,000 of the fund's $15,000 goal had been raised.
