Man rescued, hospitalized with serious injuries after falling from Indy Zoo cliff

INDIANAPOLIS — A man was seriously injured after falling from a 35-foot cliff that surrounds the Indianapolis Zoo late Tuesday night.

The 36-year-old man called 911 around 11:48 p.m., saying he fell from a cliff at the zoo and didn't know where he was.

Indianapolis Fire Department firefighters found the man at 12:06 a.m., on the ground in a wooded area.

The man told firefighters on the scene he sat on the wall, fell asleep, and woke up on the ground. According to IFD public information officer, Rita Reith, it is still unclear why he was on Indy Zoo property.

The man did sustain non-life-threatening but serious injuries. He is being treated at Eskenazi Hospital.
