COLUMBUS — A man was arrested for bringing two loaded and concealed firearms onto Columbus Central Middle School property Wednesday.

According to the Columbus Police Department, resource officer Greg Ross assigned to the middle school noticed the man on in the school parking lot, acting suspiciously, around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Ross made contact with the 38-year-old man and took him into custody after finding him in possession with two loaded guns that were concealed.

The suspect was brought to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he will be held for a mandatory 48-hours on a preliminary a charge of Possession of a Firearm on School Property, a Level 6 Felony.

"I would like to commend Officer Ross for his swift actions today. This is just one example of why we have veteran law enforcement officers in our Columbus schools," Michael Richardson, the Columbus Chief of Police, said in a press release. “By being proactive, rather than reactive, Officer Ross was able to investigate and confront a potential threat to student safety and arrest the suspect without incident.”

Detectives from the Columbus Police Department are assisting with this ongoing investigation.
