INDIANAPOLIS -- Metro police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a far-east side man in critical condition Saturday night.

Willie Banks, Sr., 67, is a Marine Corps veteran who fought for his country in Vietnam. He's now recovering from serious traumatic injuries suffered when a driver struck him and drove off near 39th Street and Marseille Road.

Banks' son, Kevin Talley, was there to witness the collision.

"Right now my father has two broken legs, a broken ankle, a fractured shoulder, a fractured arm and two rods in the back of his neck," Talley said.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday while Banks was crossing southbound on 39th Street.

Police were able to gather enough evidence to make a tentative identification of the suspect vehicle.

"They believe the suspect vehicle is a dark, large SUC that has damage near the right front side," said IMPD Sgt. Catherine Cummings.

Banks, the father of 14 children, is described as someone who would give you the shirt off his back.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-Tips.
