INDIANAPOLIS -- The Marion County prosecutor announced Monday that his office would be partnering with the social media app Nextdoor to expand their crimefighting efforts.

Nextdoor is a private social networking app that allows people living in certain areas to connect with their neighbors and share information about events, ask for advice and warn each other about crimes happening nearby.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says his office will use Nextdoor to help people in Indianapolis catch criminals.

“We are the first prosecutor’s office in the Midwest to be approved as an agency partner on Nextdoor,” said Curry. “We are the first in the country approved as a collaborative effort involving the prosecutor’s office, the mayor’s office and IMPD.”

The app has 100,000 registered users in Marion County. Curry said it would allow his office to interact more closely with those people to help fight crime in their neighborhoods and throughout the county.
