INDIANAPOLIS -- Marion County’s Veterans Treatment Court had its first female graduate on Friday.
The goal of the program is to help veterans with low-level offenses get their lives back on track.
Keynatika Johnson served in Iraq. She was the program's first female graduate.
As part of the program, Johnson took part in everything from drug and alcohol testing to regular one-on-one meetings with a mentor. Because of that, the single mother of three will now have her previous theft charged removed dismissed.
“They all play a tight role in control. If you have more control over your life, the less likely you are to make another mistake, it feels good to set the bar, but I set it pretty high,” said Johnson.
Four other veterans also graduated on Friday and will all have their charges dismissed.
There are currently 50 veterans enrolled in the program.
