The Marion County Commission on Youth teamed up with local donut shops on Thursday to give out free donuts and coffee in exchange for donations to benefit local youth.

Volunteers directed traffic near 16th and Harding Streets to pass out free Long's and Jack's Donuts to drivers in hopes of raising funds for youth opportunities in Indianapolis.

The group's organizers say fundraisers like this help their mission become reality.

Jacie Farris, director of the Marion County Commission on Youth, says the group strives to be an advocate for youth voices and to train adults who work with youths to serve them better.

"We are always talking about intervention work, prevention work, for a variety of youth issues," Farris said.
