INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Department of Public Works and Mayor Joe Hogsett want to remind residents that the days are dwindling to apply for the Indy Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership, which awards non-profit community-based organizations matching funds for neighborhood projects.

The program is derived from a state project called Community Crossing, where the state asked for projects, and they matched 50/50.

For this program, community-based organizations include a community development corporation, community center, neighborhood association, homeowner’s association, or educational organization (including charter schools, private schools, and education foundations).

DPW has been accepting proposals since the partnership’s launch in December, and organizations have until March 1st to apply.

DPW will review all proposals and those accepted will receive up to $1.5 million in matching project funding.

A minimum of 50 percent of cost share is recommended for the program, and preference will be given to projects that meet the minimum match.

To qualify, projects must be located in Indianapolis/Marion County (projects within excluded cities are ineligible) and construction plans must be for improvements of infrastructure including roads, sidewalks, paths, or bridges.

Ineligible uses of the program funds include: Projects not within public right-of-way, alley resurfacing, soft costs/preliminary engineering, land acquisition, utility relocation, railroad crossing upgrades, stormwater/sanitary sewer projects, or streetscape decorative projects.

"What we've told them is be creative as possible. And try to provide us with a project that would go beyond a project that would impact just your neighborhood, but it would have an impact city-wide," said DPW Director Dan Parker.

Grant awards will be announced mid-March.
