Floating stage planned for Indianapolis White River

INDIANAPOLIS – This is different.

A floating stage alone the White River in Indianapolis where you can see concerts, dance performances and theater productions.

The arts organization Indy Convergence, which is based just west of the river, has received a $50,000 grant to purchase a floating stage and outdoor lighting.

The hope is to begin shows next spring, with five next year and 20 in 2020.

Indy Convergence has been scouting locations along the White River between West 16th Street and West New York Street.

The sites need to be accessible -- places where those attending can bring portable chairs or blankets to sit on.

Each show would be at a different location.

Indy Convergence Executive Director Caitlin Negron says the organization will be seeking sponsors, donations, volunteer, artists and nature lovers in coming months.
