LAWRENCE, Ind. -- When you think of local performing arts venues, the City of Lawrence probably doesn't pop into your mind.
But there's a push to change that perception and your help is needed.
The non-profit group Arts for Lawrence will host its first volunteer meeting on Wednesday, September 6, at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Avenue.
The event takes place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Program Director Lecia Floyd calls it the perfect chance for people with a passion for volunteering and for the arts, to learn how they can combine those passions.
"When I first moved to Lawrence, it was like an arts desert," says Floyd. "Our mission is to work together with community members to make this area a cultural destination."
Floyd says volunteers are needed in at least four different categories.
The big project, she says, is revitalizing the Theater at the Fort.
If you can't make it to the meeting, you can always call 317-875-1900 to see how you can volunteer or to donate to Arts for Lawrence.
