INDIANAPOLIS -- Hundreds of students in Wayne Township honored the victims of 9/11 by participating in a silent dismissal Monday.

At 2 pm, students at Chapel Glen Elementary sang “Proud to Be an American” and “God Bless the USA.”

Following the songs, 820 students collected every American flag in the building and lined the sidewalks.

After the songs, the students exited silently from their classrooms through the canopies of American flags to their bus or car.

The observance is a remembrance of September 11, 2001 and a tribute to all who have served and protected our country.

Chapel Glen’s Silent Dismissal has been observed on September 11 since the first Patriot Day in 2002.
