CARMEL, Ind. -- It's Earth Day – and that means you may be thinking of ways to "go green" and better protect our natural resources.
In Carmel, one local grocery store has made sustainability a big part of their business practices.
At Market District in Carmel, the goals are two-fold: They're foodies; but they also care about the environment.
"Understand how to conserve the environment and the natural resources that help provide those items to us, and allow us to enjoy those everyday – those are the things that we are really excited to showcase," said Executive Store Leader Jim Griffith.
And signs of conservation are everywhere in the store, from LED lighting in refrigerators that cut down on heat to recycling meat scraps at local farms as feed.
Griffith says the green business model is benefiting the company financially as well.
"We're putting that savings back into some other goods or services for those individuals," he said.
